Great post. I'm spiritually aligned with your descriptions, but they're also "big company focused". There's lots of smaller (and very successful) valley companies for whom M3s are super rare. But that doesn't mean product leaders and executives don't exist. I think it'd be fascinating for you to synthesize more perspectives at a variety of these companies to see what's similar and different.
We talk a lot about "T-Shaped" leaders. Leaders who can go broad and empower systems of people (as you describe) - but for whom being able to go deep (both to help coach, help demonstrate, and validate strategy) is also a part of the job.
That’s a great and true observation. Helen and I talk about this a lot as she’s at a smaller co. I’m curious to learn more about the lived experience of a CPO or such at a smaller co where the job is probably not making large systems work as much. Fascinating.
Very nice write up Adam and the last point on not time but having the mental energy resonates deeply and of course finding the balance to do all the critical parts of the job.

Awesome post Adam! Love your authentic and thoughtful perspective.
Great job as always synthesizing the role
