This is the first LinkedIn post I've read since retirement, and it was worth it! Speaking as someone who had a distinctly non-linear path in the tech industry, it's heartening to read such a thoughtful account of what's been not only a successful career, but a broad-minded, ethical, interesting one as well. Congratulations, Adam! May your next fifteen be as good!
I think this feels like it's talking to me. I am from Ghana and 3 years ago I took the bold decision to go all out for an MBA and use that to break into tech and into a new country.
I try to convince myself that, if I hadn't done that i wouldn't give my family a shot at life. But after graduating and trying to get into tech the last 3 years I have realized just how hard it is for me in particular.
I believe it will work out. Maybe in 20 years I too could write a similar story about my journey at Microsoft.
“Out of every team at Microsoft, is this the team we’d pick to deliver on this?” is really insightful and delightfully elegant in its simplicity. I think careful consideration of just this one question could have prevented many strategic errors over the years...

Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to more fun conversations about product and culture
